Valentine Dwarf Tart Cherry (4 ft tall)

Valentine Dwarf Cherry

Introduced by the University of Saskatchewan.
It is a preferred variety for drying as fruit maintain their red colour, but also suitable for fresh eating and processing. Although sour is in their name, they can be surprisingly sweet when harvested at the right stage of ripeness. High yielding, as plants a generally larger than others in the series.

White flowers, formed in showy clusters in mid-spring. Foliage turns yellow in the fall.

Very good in pies and baked goods. When the fruit turns red in early to mid-August, they will be sour and good to use in cooking, but if you wait a week later, they’ll be much sweeter, and the red colour will be little darker.
For this variety, provide an area about 4×4 or 5×5 feet for the bush to grow. It’s best to train it as a bush with a few major branches.

Early to mid-season variety.
Probably, the most productive dwarf sour cherry.
Fruit is suitable for wholesale, pick-your-own, and processing
It is a self-pollinating variety
Highly tolerant of urban pollution
Grow in full sun
Height: 10 ft, but with pruning could be kept shorter
