Clematis Sweet Autumn (for spring 2021)

$29.00
Clematis Sweet Autumn is a great asset to the garden at a time of year when pretty much everything else has stopped blooming. There are few vines that produce more flowers over the course of several weeks than a vigorous sweet autumn clematis. This hardy climber is a rampant grower that can reach to 30 feet, but can easily be kept in check by cutting stems back to 12 inches in spring. It blooms on the current year's growth, and unlike many Clematis, it will thrive and bloom well in partial shade. Plants are unlikely to bloom the first year, but expect them to begin blooming the second year. As soon as warm weather arrives in late April and early May, you can almost watch the new shoots grow, as it's not unusual for them to put on the better part of a foot of growth every couple of days! Will tolerate some shade. Fragrant? Yes Flowering Period: Sept-Oct Mature Height: 20-30′(6-9m) Pruning Group: A B or C (can be pruned any time) Planting Aspect: Full Sun USDA Zone: 5 (winter-hardy to -29 C or -20 F) Plant size: 1-gallon pot. Pick up in Halifax in early May 2021. Not available by mail order.

Early bird discount is valid until October 31. Roses won't be available by mail. Pick up in Halifax.   Any bare root roses should be picked up within 1-2 days of arrival to us. You will be notified of the pick-up dates ahead of time via email or phone (a day in late April to early May). Upon pick-up, bare root roses should be planted right away or temporarily planted in a pot. If the order is not picked up on time, the rose will be potted for you to keep it from drying out, and you will be charged a potting fee. Potted roses can be picked up within a week or two of their arrival (until May 16 or so). Planting a bare root rose: Soak the roots (or the whole rose) for an hour or two. Dig up a hole twice as deep and wide as the rose root ball. Add some good soil and compost, mix well and water well. Plant rose in the wet soil mix. Water weekly unless there was a good amount of rain or the weather is hot and dry. Top-dress with compost twice a year: each spring and summer; alternatively, rose fertilizer can be used.
