Common pawpaw
asimina triloba
Pawpaw bears the largest fruit native to North America. Pawpaws have long and brittle taproots, so it’s important to transplant them with care. Add mycorrhizae to reduce the transplant shock, if desired.
Pawpaws don’t like competition, even from grass. Plant 12-15 ft apart. Pawpaw trees need plenty of water in the summer. They will tolerate occasional wet or moist conditions but prefer good drainage and acidic soil.
Cross-pollination is necessary for the fruit production.
