‘Multiplex’ Double-flowered bloodroot

Coming soon

Sanguinaria canadensis ‘Multiplex’ (double-flowered bloodroot)

The common Bloodroot carpets our woodland floors in early spring. ‘Multiplex’ is a double-flowered cultivar of the wild bloodroot. ‘Multiplex’ is sterile, so it flowers longer (no pollination, no early petal drop).

The First Nations used this for traditional medicine, to colour baskets, clothing, war paint and as an insect repellant.

Partial shade to dense shade.

Bloodroot blooms in early spring, foliage appears from the ground after flowers open. After a few weeks, the plant goes dormant again until spring. Mark the spot so that not to disturb it in the summer. Mulch with deciduous leaves in the fall. It will slowly form attractive clumps.

Divide after 3-4 years; double bloodroot may unexpectedly die off if it is left at the same location not divided.
