Potted roses can be picked up within a week or two of their arrival (until May 16 or so). Planting a bare root rose: Soak the roots (or the whole rose) for an hour or two. Dig up a hole twice as deep and wide as the rose root ball. Add some good soil and compost, mix well and water well. Plant rose in the wet soil mix. Water weekly unless there was a good amount of rain or the weather is hot and dry. Top-dress with compost twice a year: each spring and summer; alternatively, rose fertilizer can be used.
